Camp

Burd Tennis would like to offer quality tennis and fun learning environment-supervised by USPTA Certified Instructors followed by 45 minutes of Literacy enhancement, and a cool down and more fun at the Aquatic Center. Literacy will be implemented in break out rooms. First, the instructor or Tutor will be reading the story out loud for the students, and then the children will be reading their assigned parts out loud as if rehearsing. After the 30 min Reading, students will then be asked to spend 5-10 minutes. To write in their journals, where they will be able to freely express themselves and experience during the summer camp. Teacher/Tutor will assist and supervise the daily and weekly lesson plans. The Tutors will also work with the students on the daily and weekly lessons scheduled. The Tutors will engage the participants in developing social skills, violence prevention, and citizenship skills. The tennis/reading curriculum incorporates activities that foster problem solving rather than violence and aggression. The children will participate in role-plays, group work and other interactive techniques that teach pro-social skills such as anger management, perspective taking, peer resistance, effective communication, and problem-solving.
